Why Choose a Fibreglass Pool

We feel confident offering a wide range of durable and low maintenance fiberglass pools from Imagine Pools to our clients. Generally, those looking to install an inground pool are weighing the pros and cons between a vinyl pool and a fibreglass pool. Vinyl pools use liners that typically need to be replaced every 5-10 years, where a fibreglass pool can go decades before needing to be reglazed. Fiberglass pools have smooth floors and walls which elminiates the risk of algae formation and allows for faster and simpler cleaning, as dirt will bead along the edges rather than stick as it would on a liner. Fiberglass pools retain heat better as fiberglass is an insulating material. Fiberglass pools are very low maintenace and offer a quicker installation process, as they are installed in one large piece.

A fiberglass swimming pool installation with landscaping usually takes about 2-3 weeks to complete. Of course, the pool size, access to the space for machinery and the landscaping needed will ultimately determine the time frame you are given for your project.

The Installation Process

Phase 1: Pool Permit is Obtained

Contact your municipality’s building division to find out what is needed to obtain a permit for installing a pool on your property.

Typically, in addition to completing an application form, you will submit a copy of your deed, details on the proximity of the pool to your house or other structures and property lines, a site plan that shows the location of overhead wires, pool location reative to septic and well locations (rural only), location and dimensions of registered easements and rights-of-way, location and type of enclosure and you will need approval from the Electrical Safety Authority. This is not an exhaustive list, but it will provide an idea of some of the items needed to get your permit.

Phase 2: Pre-Construction Meeting

Once your permit has been obtained we will schedule a pre-construction meeting to discuss the plan to complete your project as efficiently as possible. We will explain the construction process and give you the details of what to expect from beginning to end.

Phase 3: Prepping the Site

A clear path at least 6 feet wide for our machinery to access the space is prepared. This can include removing fence posts and panels and removing/moving structures or other items and appliances that could be in the way.

Phase 4: Laying Out the Pool

Our installation team will mark the placement of the pool in the yard. Be sure to discuss any landscaping wants/needs in the pre-construction meeting so plans can be made before placement is marked out.

Phase 5: Excavation

The path is clear for machinery and excavation can now begin. The time to complete excavation can range from half a day to two days depending on the size and shape of the pool. Weather and ground conditions can impact the schedule.

Phase 6: Setting the Floor

A compacted bed of gravel is laid on the ground to provide a base for the pool. Screed bars are set up as guides for the slope to make the screeding process smooth.

Phase 7: Pool Delivery and Placement

The day is here! Your pool is delivered on a low trailer designed to carry swimming pool shells. The pool is lifted into place by a crane and lowered into the hole. Levels are checked to ensure a perfect fit.

Phase 8: Plumbing and Backfilling

A skimmer box, deep-end suction fittings, and return fittings are installed and PVC pipe is run from these items to the pump and filter. The pump, filter, and salt system (optional) are installed. The pool will start to be filled with water while backfilling happens to provide equal pressure and stability on the fiberglass walls.

Phase 9: Reinforcement

The pool is backfilled and it’s now time to reinforce it with rebar, which is attached to the perimeter of the pool for strength. After the rebar is grounded, concrete is poured roughly 8″ thick around the perimeter of the pool to create a mechanical lock. This footing makes the pool stronger and provides stability for the coping finish.

Phase 10: Coping and Decking

Paver coping is installed to complete the look of the pool, and the decking is finished along with any landscaping for your project. Your pool is now complete! We will clean the site and convey operation procedures so you can begin enjoying your new oasis!

Just because your pool project is finished, doesn’t mean you’ll never speak to us again. Please feel free to reach out to our team with any questions you may have along the way.
